Although he wrote
for the usually trashy News network in Canada, Eric Margolis was always a
columnist worth reading, his commentaries on global affairs being free of cant,
and usually full of prescient warnings about the folly of the crazy western
wars in the Middle East and elsewhere.
Now he has come up with an explanation of the fact that “Al
Queda” seems to have popped up all over the world, and suddenly have become
involved not only in Afghanistan, but in Iraq, which originally had no Al Queda,
and in Syria, where the opposition forces have turned their guns on one of their own, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), as well as in the Saharan nations Mali and Niger. “Al Queda” has become the all-purpose Western
enemy, just as Communism used be. Read Margolis’s informative piece here.
